Paving the Philippines IoT-ready: Post Event Recap at the IoT Conference 2024

Manila, Philippines — The Internet of Things Conference 2024 was wrapped up with a significant movement positioning the Philippines as an IoT-ready nation. It was held at SMX Convention, Pasay City on Oct. 29–30, 2024. The two-day event successfully gathered participants in academe, business leaders, government officials, and tech-enthusiasts, with over 3, 200 attendees in total.

IoT Moments

The two-day event was more than just fleeting moments, it was more than just walks and talks — it was dynamic, engaging, and interactive. Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, Undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), provided valuable insights into the Philippines’ future in IoT, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture, disaster management, responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) use, and the development of smart cities.

Mayor Javi Lopez Benitez of the City of Victorias shared his vision for IoT in disaster risk management and the digitization of urban communities. He emphasized the importance of making Victorias resilient through data-driven governance, which enhances policy-making and decision-making processes.

Mayor Abby Binay of Makati City also spoke about her city’s commitment to becoming IoT-ready, focusing on the role of technology in urban planning and smart cities. She highlighted how IoT can improve the quality of life for citizens and contribute to Makati’s continued progress.

Arts & IoT

Art is an inherently subjective concept, and it permeates every field — including technology. In the Arts & IoT segment, renowned news anchor, documentarian, and producer Atom Araullo shared his perspective on the importance of real-time data in disaster management. Drawing from his experiences in news coverage, he highlighted how technology aids governments in mitigating the loss of lives and property and supports informed decision-making for disaster preparedness.

Director Mark Reyes also took the stage, discussing the intersection of arts and technology. He explored how emerging technologies are transforming the entertainment industry, boosting creativity, increasing productivity, and enabling more interactive and exciting ways to engage

Beyond the words

The two-day conference served as a catalyst for innovation, creativity, and cross-industry collaboration. The IoT Conference 2024 continues to play a pivotal role in driving digital transformation, turning ideas into groundbreaking innovations, and paving the way for the Philippines to become a leading IoT hub in Asia.
